Guidelines for Guest Editors (Special Issues)
Annales Geophysicae special issues cannot be understood as "proceedings" of conferences, but as full and high standard scientific papers which have to undergo standard publication procedure (at least two peer-reviews by referees, full length papers (limited to 12 pages) - even if a few short "letters" can be accepted).
- Guest editors are in charge of informing the potential authors of the special issue opportunity and provide all information about submission deadline and instructions to authors.
- Guest editors need to screen the papers before the submission to check whether they fulfill the condition for a special issue (scientific level, good English etc.). If they think the manuscript suitable in principle, they ask the author to submit it through the Copernicus Office Editor. Then the usual review procedure will be activated with the relevant topical editor(s). Without any information from the guest editor, ANGEO will not start processing the paper.
- After the submission of the paper, all the editorial decisions concerning referee assignment, acceptance or rejection of a paper remain with the topical editor of Annales Geophysicae.
- Guest editors are also largely consulted for providing advice in case of conflict or contradictory reports or missing reports.
- Guest editors will provide a short introductory to the special issue as well as a color illustration for the front cover of the issue.
- Publication delay between the submission deadline and the effective publication, specifically for a special issue, is typically about 8-10 months.
